This design-build project, completed by Pernix employees, replaced an existing 40/50 MVA substation with a new climate controlled 60/80 Substation building.

The new construction housed the new 34.5 kV and 13.8 kV switchgears, generator, battery area, emergency eyewash area, storage, transformer enclosures, power factor correction capacitors, mechanical area, and office with bathroom.

Project Highlights

The new building is a reinforced concrete structure with concrete floor, concrete walls and concrete roof with metal roofing, and received new electrical, water, and sewer services, as well as automatic fire protection and HVAC systems.
Electrical work included new underground feeders utilizing 6” diameter PVC schedule 40 conduits with 3000 psi concrete encasement.
The underground duct system included pre‐cast concrete manholes.
Work also included upgrading two switching stations, and the demolition of an existing substation, and overhead power lines and poles.
